Why I Wrote Unspoken Word

What is it that moves a poet to speak his truth?

I wrote this book for the same reason flowers bloom. There is a force of nature within me that begs to be expressed. It’s as simple as that.

It takes many shapes, this life-giving energy. It has many moods, many moves, many moons. On a good day, I let it have its way with me, taking its hand and going where it leads, praying I don’t get in the way of what’s aching to be said.

“Poetry,” explained Leonard Cohen, “is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash.”

And there you have it, my friends. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust — while we dance around the all-consuming fire of our lives.

My hope? That the poetry of Unspoken Word will serve you in some way — nurturing, enlivening, delighting, enchanting, inspiring, awakening, and helping you open the extraordinary gift that is your life.

If you like, think of my poetry as the hieroglyphics of my heart translated into English by the wonder and gratitude I feel by simply being alive.

Here is an excerpt from the book — one of 100 poems. Pub date: April 20, 2023
